Risonanze neokantiane: Ernst Cassirer e la storia della scienza

Abstract

Una caratteristica che ha sempre contraddistinto il Denkstil del filosofo delle formesimboliche Ernst Cassirer è il virtuoso e fecondo intreccio sistematico tra indagine teoreticae analisi storica. Fin dagli inizi del suo apprendistato filosofico l’autore dellaPhilosophie der symbolischen Formen ha sempre fatto proprio tale modus operandi,applicando il quale egli ha in primo luogo scandagliato temi e problemi concernenti ildelicato rapporto tra storia della filosofia e storia della scienza, per poi ampliare questometodo d’indagine alla vasta compagine delle forme simboliche con le quali l’uomoinveste la realtà di significato. Con questo lavoro intendiamo porre in luce l’originalitàdell’approccio cassireriano alla storia della scienza, che non soltanto si avvale di un solidoretroterra teoretico in larga parte di matrice neokantiana, ma anche di approfonditeindagini storiche volte a mostrare – seguendo la lezione kantiana – la portata oggettiva,ma al tempo stesso relativa, della conoscenza scientifica.

A characteristic that has always distinguished the Denkstil of the philosopher ofsymbolic forms Ernst Cassirer is the virtuous and fruitful systematic intersection oftheoretical inquiry and historical analysis. From the very beginnings of his philosophicalapprenticeship, the author of Philosophie der symbolischen Formen has alwaysadopted this modus operandi, by the application of which he first explored themes andproblems concerning the delicate relationship between the history of philosophy andthe history of science, and then also extended this method of inquiry to the vast constellationof symbolic forms intended as means of conferring meaning. With this essaywe intend to highlight the originality of the Cassirerian approach to the history of science,which not only makes use of a solid theoretical background largely of neo-Kantianorigin, but also of in-depth historical investigations aimed at showing – followingthe Kantian lesson – the objective, but at the same time relative, dimension of scientificknowledge.
